I was lucky enough to have experienced a stay at the Beverly Hilton, home to more than 175 red carpet events each year, including the famous Golden Globe and Academy Awards. The Beverly Hilton was also the site of the first Grammy Awards in 1959. It was an incredible moment for Mom Louisiana on foot from the mirror in the ladies room of international ballroom. I was alone, surrounded by marble tiles soft pink, as I thought of all the great actresses of Hollywood that checks the hair before leaving to accept their awards.

Tonight, more than 1200 guests will gather at the International Beverly Hilton Hotel for the Golden Globe Awards 2011. Hopefully, the nominated actresses will not take place even in the bathroom while his name is called to accept his prize, and Christine Lahti in 1997 and Renee Zellweger in 2000.

After breaking into your home is a terrifying event. You feel violated. You feel fear. You can no longer sleep at night, worrying if the robbers will break again. I know because I had my house broken into before. It is disturbing to know that someone had been watching my house to keep track of our daily routine. The crazy thing is that they really have a set routine each day, but this week I had been taking care of my mother after the surgery on my days off from work.

I came home one evening to find the side door open. I broke into a cold sweat and my legs turned to jelly. He immediately ran to my nearest neighbor, who was a police officer and told him what was happening. I had not come into my house because I was not sure if the intruders were inside. My neighbor pulled out his gun and went into my house, going room to room as he called 911.

The loss of our personal belongings and ransacked our house was nothing compared to my loss of security. I also learned about homeowner's insurance and what is actually covered and what is not covered. When I was scheduled to work at night, I could not sleep during the day while home alone. Was afraid of intruders to return to take our goods replaced. They were still at large and I was very, very scared. I ended up with early contractions of stress and lack of sleep and was hospitalized the time to stop contractions. I ended up giving birth prematurely and never felt safe in that house again. I eventually moved to a different neighborhood, adding further security measures at our house.

Now when I travel, I am very cautious, because the use of social media also makes me a target at a really bad people out there in this world. Here are some tips (besides the obvious one to close the doors and windows) and the precautions recommended to help protect your home when you are traveling:

Hire a Housesitter - If you travel the whole family, hired a model house to someone is always at our house while we are away. One of the biggest safety hazards in the home is to leave your house empty. In addition, we have someone to care for our pets while we are away.

Get a dog - a big deterrent to theft is to have a dog in your home. Our dog is very sweet, but has a crack in the door, while FedEx or UPS is making a delivery and removed after the delivery, chasing the poor back to his truck. We also know when someone steps foot in our driveway that are not supposed to be there. How can you detect this, I do not doubt, but I'm delighted to have our dog as part of our family.

Installing security cameras - I tried the Logitech 750i Master * warning system that not only show a visual representation of certain regions, but also transmits audio. The cameras are motion activated and sends an alert to my phone with the pictures. We have several hidden cameras installed in areas inside and outside the perimeter of our house. I have the number of local law enforcement in the telephone set and the camera must be activated with a person or vehicle that does not recognize, the law may be there in moments. This system is inexpensive compared to others and is easy to configure. We liked it so much that although the evidence we have invested in a few cameras to add to the system.

Install an audible alarm monitored - We have a monitored security system with motion detectors and sensors on each window and door. Sure, it's likely that there are ways around this, if someone is determined to break into our home, however, have to go to a serious effort.

Stop your mail and newspapers - a great indicator that your house is empty is when the mail and newspapers pile up outside. You can arrange to have your mail held at your local post office until you return. You can also call your newspaper and have stopped delivery of the days will be absent.

Enlisting Law Enforcement Assistance - If you live in a small town like me, law enforcement can be very helpful and another pair of eyes to watch over your property. My police station will send a marked car to drive around the neighborhood and check things out at home.

Tell your neighbors - My neighborhood is great and we all watch each other's properties. We ensure that our neighbors know when we are away and give us a call if something seems out of place if we are out of town or simply at work for the day.

Do not leave garbage cans outside - You may want to put it away when you leave the city, but that will make your trash back in? Seeing a blank paper sitting by the roadside for days is a sure sign that no one is home.

These suggestions do not guarantee that your house will not be stolen, but putting some of these security measures in place definitely deter criminals from accessing your home while you're away. Personally it gives me peace of mind knowing that I have done everything possible to keep my home safe.

I've been a big fan of Cirque du Soleil since I saw my first performance of La Nouba in Downtown Disney in Florida many years ago. Since then, I tried to catch shows as they travel around on tour and I've even had a couple of shows in Las Vegas, such as Viva Elvis and Zumanity.
